The eight methods of the Scouting movement are the means through which the Aims of Scouting are achieved: Scouting Ideals.

THE AIMS AND METHODS OF SCOUTING The Scouting program has specific objectives, commonly referred to as the “Aims of Scouting.” They are character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.

To achieve these, Scouting applies eight methods of Scouting: scouting ideals (as exemplified by the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Scout Motto, and the Scout Slogan), the patrol method, participation in outdoor programs, advancement, adult association, personal growth, leadership development, and the uniform.

Boy Scouts of America's "Scout Basic Essentials" are quite similar (Map and Compass, Sun Protection, Extra Clothing, Flashlight, First-Aid Kit, Matches and Fire-starters, Pocketknife, Trail Food, Water Bottle, and Rain Gear.)

Cub Scout #1: Be clean in my outdoor manners. Cub Scout #2: Be careful with fire. Cub Scout #3: Be considerate in the outdoors. Cub Scout #4: Be conservation-minded.

The Scouts BSA requirements for rank are the basis for a Scout's advancement. There are four steps in the Scout BSA advancement procedure: learning, testing, reviewing, and recognition. Scouts BSA has the following ranks: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle.

Because those three C's are in our mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. But how do we do it? These are big, important characteristics that can't just be taught by one person at one troop meeting.

Its programmes include Squirrel Scouts (aged 4–6), Beaver Scouts (aged 6–8), Cub Scouts (aged 8–101⁄2), Scouts (aged 101⁄2–14), Explorer Scouts (aged 14–18) and adult Network members (aged 18–25).
