Tax-exempt customers Some customers are exempt from paying sales tax under Texas law. Examples include government agencies, some nonprofit organizations, and merchants purchasing goods for resale. Sellers are required to collect a valid exemption or resale certificate from buyers to validate each exempt transaction.

Generally, equipment that is used to process oil and gas such as heater treaters, dehydrators, scrubbers, separators, gun barrels, etc., qualify for exemption from tax as processing equipment. As such, any repairs and replacement parts for this equipment also qualify for an exemption.

Federal excise tax rates remain at $0.183/gal for gasoline and $0.243/gal for diesel fuel. The Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Fund adds an additional $0.001/gal federal fee.

Gas tax total: $0.38 per gallon of gasoline Oregon taxes gasoline slightly higher than West Virginia does. At a tax rate of $0.38 per gallon, filling up in Oregon is less than ideal. On the bright side, the state doesn't tax diesel fuel at a higher rate like many other states do.

Any business or entity that is based in Texas and operates Qualified Motor Vehicle(s) in one or more IFTA member jurisdictions is required to obtain a Texas IFTA license in order to meet their fuel tax obligations with other jurisdictions.

Texas law provides a variety of exemptions from gasoline and diesel taxes. Federal agencies and Texas public school districts, or their bus contractors, are exempted.

Oregonians with fuel-powered vehicles pay an automatic 38 cents per gallon fuel tax. OReGO participants receive a credit for fuel tax they pay.
