Lactation Room Requirements Door that locks. Electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump. Good lighting and ventilation. Comfortable chair. Countertop or table for breastpump and supplies. "Occupied" sign for the door. Wastebasket, chemical cleaner for surfaces, chemical cleaner for hands, routine daily maintenance.

The lactation room must have comfortable seating and a table or similar flat surface, other than the floor, to place the breast pump and other supplies. (T-0). The room must have adequate temperature control, adjustable lighting, and clothing hooks.

The lactation room or location must include a surface to place a breast pump and personal items, a place to sit, access to electricity, a sink with running water, and a refrigerator or cooler for storing breast milk.

Wellness rooms should provide, at a minimum, a lockable door; a work surface and chair; a small utility-type sink; storage for cleaning supplies and paper towels; adequate HVAC service, and well-placed electrical outlets. A refrigerator is desired in the workplace.

The Lactation Suites provide a secure, private or semi-private, restful and sanitary environment for breastfeeding or pumping.

Mothers Room - This is the most common term for workplace lactation spaces in both the corporate and public settings, although we recommend using Lactation Room as a more inclusive label. Parents Room - This is another term that is more inclusive and gender neutral.
