Get Fontana Yard Sale Permit

Every person engaged in operating a garage sale shall obtain a permit prior to commencement of the sale. For each permit issued, the applicant shall pay a $17.00 fee. Each permit is issued for three-consecutive-days only. Single-family dwellings are limited to two permits per calendar year.

Only the seller's personal property may be sold at a garage or yard sale. New merchandise, items acquired or consigned for the purpose of resale, may not be sold at a garage or yard sale. Garage or yard sales are only allowed on properties owned and permitted for residential use.

You are required to register each location where sales are made and obtain a temporary seller's permit. When you have a garage sale and sell used items, you are generally not required to hold a seller's permit.

Any person wishing to have a garage sale must obtain a permit prior to holding the sale. The cost is $11 per permit/sale. The city permit must be displayed at the site of the sale at all times. Garage sale permit applications may be submitted by email, mail, or in our drop box located outside City Hall.

A permit is required for all residential yard sales, garage sales, or estate sales. The cost of the permit is $20.00. Each permit is valid for up to 3 consecutive days.

Holding a yard sale on any day other than the above dates is an infraction and subject to graduated penalties with each successive violation as stipulated in the Fontana Municipal Code, Ordinance 1653.
