Requests for confirmation of an arbitral award must be submitted by motion or petition (9 U.S.C. § 13). Together with the petition or motion, a party seeking confirmation under Chapter 1 of the FAA must file: ∎ The arbitration agreement.

If both sides agree going in, a losing party in arbitration can call for the forum to assemble a new panel of arbitrators with the power to affirm or reverse the underlying arbitration decision, and its decision becomes the final decision in the case.

Under California law, a petition to confirm an award must be served and filed at least 10 days, and no later than 4 years, after service of the award on the petitioner. (Code Civ. Proc. §§ 1288, 1288.4.)
