Contact support

A Voluntary Declaration of Parentage (or paternity) (a VDOP) is a government form two parents can sign to create a legal parent-child relationship between a child and parent. It's often signed at the hospital when a child is born, but it can be signed later. There's no cost to use the form.

Parents may obtain a Request for a Filed Declaration of Paternity form by contacting the California Department of Child Support Services at (866) 249-0773 or you may obtain additional information, including the form, by visiting California Child Support Services .

In California, consistent failure to pay child support can result in a felony charge. This is when the parent who should be paying support owes more than $2,500 in back payments. If the total sum is less than that, there is still time for other solutions to be implemented before it reaches this point.

Parental right can be terminated voluntarily by the parent(s) or involuntarily by the court to typically allow an agency, independent, or stepparent adoption to take place.

Termination of parental rights is a court order that permanently ends the legal parent-child relationship. This type of order terminates rights such as inheritance, custody, and visitation, as well as responsibilities regarding child support and liability for the child's misconduct.

A parent requesting full custody in California must have persuasive evidence. The court needs a compelling reason consistent with the children's best interest to order full custody to one parent.

Abandonment. If a parent has not had any contact with their child in at least six months and has made no effort to contact the child or exercise their parental rights, the court will consider this abandonment.

A: A person who owes support and willfully fails to pay is ignoring a court order to pay support, so he or she can be prosecuted for being in contempt of court and may go to jail.

When a case is closed it means that CSSD will no longer provide services for that case. The fact that a case is closed has no impact on the underlying orders for support. If a Person Paying Support (PPS) still has an order for support, he or she must continue to pay that support to the Person Receiving Support (PRS).

Typically, to terminate or modify your child support arrangement, you will need to complete paperwork and submit it to the court for approval. You will have file a request for a hearing (Form-FL 300) and ask the court to end child support payments. After you file, the clerk will assign a court date.
