Get Scholarship Application - South Dakota State University

The Build Dakota Scholarship covers any expenses directly related to program requirements. This includes tuition, fees, books, equipment, technology and tools. These purchases must be required and approved by the technical college.

To be eligible for the Jump Start Scholarship students must: Be a resident of South Dakota. Complete the requirements of the recommended high school program as established by the Board of Education pursuant to §12-1-12.1, and be awarded a high school diploma by a public high school in three years or less.

CURRICULUM / GPA: Complete the high school course requirements (see Curriculum Requirements webpage) with no final grade below a "C" (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) and a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (grade of "B") prior to graduation (NOTE: One unit of high school credit equals one year of instruction).

Incoming students should complete the SDSU Academic Scholarship Application Form the year prior to enrollment. SDSU accepts scholarship applications throughout the year, but you are strongly encouraged to have yours submitted by December 15 of your senior year to receive priority consideration for all awards.

Amounts vary and funds are limited; scholarships range from $3,000 to $5,000 per year. Demonstrate financial need as calculated below: Cost of Attendance minus Expected Family Contribution minus financial aid offered. Students with the highest need will be prioritized.

The FSEOG provides additional educational funding up to $4,000 a year to students with extreme financial need. Together with the Pell Grant, the FSEOG provides South Dakota college students with money for tuition, books and living expenses while in school. Students must fill out a FAFSA to be considered for the FSEOG.
