Under Illinois' Concealed Firearm Carry Act, enacted in 2013, a person who is issued a valid concealed carry license is permitted to keep or carry a loaded or unloaded concealed firearm on or about his or her person within a vehicle.

The license is generally valid for five years from the date of issuance. State law requires the State Police to notify each person whose license is to expire 180 days prior, and to provide instructions for renewing the license.

ISP said the automatic renewal will allow staff to focus on clear and present danger reports, firearm restraining orders, and FOID correlations and enforcement. The new cards will not include issuance or expiration dates.

If you are not an Illinois resident, you may apply for a FOID card ONLY if either of the following conditions apply: 1. You are employed in Illinois and are required to carry a firearm in the course of your employment. 2.

As of January 1st, 2022, a person's FOID card will be automatically renewed if it expires during the license term. If your card expires, you will not have to pay the renewal fee. You will still be sent a new combined FOID card and concealed carry license. Neither card will have an issue end or expiration date.

Your FOID card can be renewed through the online method at our website or at one of our four self-service kiosks in: Troop 3/District 5,Lockport; Troop 6/District 9,Springfield; Troop 8/District 11,Collinsville; or, Troop 10/District 13, Du Quoin.

The expiration date has been removed to accommodate the new auto-renewal provisions so that cards are not consistently being reprinted. Future Guidance: Beginning January 1, 2022, as FOID Cards are replaced, new cards will be printed without expiration dates.
