Applicants must be at least 21 years old and be a legal resident of the United States. Persons convicted of a felony or any one of 11 misdemeanor offenses detailed in the statute are ineligible to receive a permit.

If you want to live with your spouse without the risk of them going to prison, you need to remove your firearms from your home. Living in separate rooms or having it under lock and key is not enough. Convicted felons cannot be in the same residential property as a firearm.

Under federal law, people are generally prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms if they have been convicted of a felony or some domestic violence misdemeanors, or if they are subject to certain court orders related to domestic violence or a serious mental condition.

Connecticut has a pretty detailed process, but it is not all that difficult. There is a requirement to take a pistol safety course (which is what we offer with the NRA Basic Pistol Course). Whether you are in or out of state wanting a CT permit, you still need the course.

4. Renewal applicants must submit a DPS-129-C-2 with $35.00 fee made payable to “Treasurer State of Connecticut.” Do not mail cash. A color passport photo must also be affixed to the DPS-129-C-2 form, and the form must be notarized.

You can only buy a handgun in Connecticut if in addition to being a resident, you are at least 21 years of age and you possess a valid Permit to Car- ry Pistols or Revolvers, a valid Eligibility Certificate or if you are a sworn Police Officer. You must first complete an Application to Purchase Firearms (DPS -67-C).
