A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family's choice where the owner agrees to rent under the program. When a family selects a housing unit, and the HACLA approves the unit and lease, the family signs a lease with the Landlord for at least one year.

As part of the CalWorks Housing Support Program, individuals can get hold of motel vouchers in California. These are provided to individuals who are receiving cash aid through CalWorks for up to 30 days. For an individual adult who is experiencing homelessness, they should phone Home Connect at 1-800-498-8847.

The Housing Services Department administers the Public Housing Program and oversees the management of fourteen (14) large HACLA owned public housing developments consisting of over 6,300 units located throughout the city of Los Angeles from the San Fernando Valley to San Pedro, Mar Vista to Boyle Heights.

To apply for an emergency section 8 voucher, and to try to be given priority to bypass a waiting list (whether it is open or not), immediately call a local public housing authority (PHA) in your town or county near you.

Incentives. Landlords can receive up to one month's rent, per vacant unit held, and based on the number of bedrooms and current Fair Market Rents (FMR). Move-In Assistance may include security deposit, utility assistance, and furniture essentials depending on the needs of the homeless family or individual.
