No, you can't get insurance for salvage cars. Once a car is declared a total loss, it's destined for the scrapyard — unless it's sufficiently repaired and rebuilt.

In Illinois, you are not allowed to rebuild and reconstruct a salvage vehicle on your own. Instead, you need to go through one of the licensed rebuilders who can perform the repairs and make it roadworthy. Once the vehicle is rebuilt, you've completed the first step in getting a rebuilt title.

In 2021, 22 facilities began offering appointments. The new Skip-the-Line program will now include 44 facilities. In addition, those DMVs that offered appointments in the past also welcomed walk-ins.
