The Admission Committee reviews each application individually to assess academic achievement, curricular rigor, leadership potential, depth of extracurricular activities, standardized test scores (if applicable), and overall interest in attending Hofstra University.

School officials decided on the change before the current school year, saying Pride was more meaningful. Hofstra's longtime logo features two lions, and “a pride” is a pack of lions. The change, though, has caused confusion.

Hofstra University is one of a few Universities throughout the country that uniquely features two mascots: Kate and Willie Pride, a lion and lioness. The two mascots are named after the University's benefactors William Hofstra and his wife Kate Davidson.

The acceptance rate at Hofstra University is 68.5%. In other words, of 100 students who apply, 69 are admitted. This means the school is somewhat selective. You should prepare your academic scores well, but you have an excellent chance if you impress them.

Thirty-five percent of students, admitted to Hofstra for the fall 2023 semester, submitted their test scores. The mid-range of admitted students submitting SAT scores is 1230- 1410 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math), with an average ACT equivalent of 27 to 33.
