It is a legal requirement in WA for doctors, nurses, midwives, teachers, police officers, boarding supervisors and ministers of religion to report child sexual abuse to Communities' mandatory reporting service. New reporter groups are being introduced in stages from 1 November 2022.

Pursuant to § 63.2-1509 D of the Code of Virginia, a mandated reporter's failure to report as soon as possible, but no longer than 24 hours after having reason to suspect a reportable offense of child abuse or neglect, shall result in a fine.

Maximum age requirement is met when the child is not yet age 19 on July 1 of the current program year. School enrollment for children ages five through 17 is presumed by the eligibility system. Children who have attained the age of five by July 1 of the current program year are assumed to be enrolled in kindergarten.

Reports can also be made to the Abuse and Neglect Hotline ( 1-800-352-6513 ) 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

These persons include: medical, dental and mental health professionals; Christian Science practitioners; religious healers; social service workers; law enforcement officers; humane officers; state or regional ombudsmen; and employees of nursing homes or other residential facilities.
