Students can apply for registration as a psychologist after successfully completing the Master of Clinical Psychology. In order to be endorsed in a specific area of practice (eg Clinical Psychology), students need to complete two year registrar program after graduation.

Provisional Psychologist Salaries in Australia The national average salary for a Provisional Psychologist is $67,000 in Australia.

The 5+1 pathway consists of completing a one-year APAC-accredited Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology, gaining provisional registration with the PsyBA, undertaking a PsyBA-regulated one-year internship of supervised practice and successfully completing the National Psychology Exam.

Core duties include: - Providing psychological therapy to clients with learning difficulties, developmental disorders or psychological and mental health disorders. - Knowledge and understanding of developmental disabilities and disorders, with understanding of normal and abnormal child and adolescent development.

Like generally registered psychologists, provisionally registered psychologists can help support clients in a broad range of presenting concerns and regularly report to their governing body, AHPRA. However, they do differ slightly from a generally registered psychologist.

Provisional registration may be granted having completed a 4 yr sequence of psychology study, or a sequence that in the opinion of the Board is substantially equivalent. This registration is granted to enable the completion of years five and six of supervised practice as part of the minimum six yr sequence.

While it is acceptable to have provisional psychologists as volunteers, all psychologists are required to behave ethically, including providing provisional psychologists with fair working conditions.

A provisional psychologist is someone who has completed their tertiary qualifications and is eligible to undertake a program of supervision (internship) as they develop their applied skills “on the job”. Typically this involves a minimum of two years of weekly supervision with an AHPRA board approved supervisor.
