Additional Information: If you have sold a similar vehicle and have a current tag to transfer, the fee to transfer is $6.50; a $10.00 title fee; a $1.50 lien holder fee if applicable; plus $5.00 modernization fee which brings the total to $22.00.

If the vehicle owner wishes to remove a lien holder's name from a registration receipt, an application for reissued title must be made at the local county treasurer's motor vehicle office. Bring the notarized lien release and a title will be requested and mailed to you within 5 to 7 days.

Once the first lienholder has been paid off, they may submit their lien release electronically (if they are members of the KS E-Lien system), or by providing it to the owner who will then submit it to the local county treasurer's office or fax it to the Titles and Registrations Bureau at 785-296-2383.

The general public will generally be able to obtain a duplicate title or lien release title on a same day basis (typically within 30 minutes). However, there may be times when the title work takes an extended amount of time to process.

If the vehicle owner wishes to remove a lien holder's name from a registration receipt, an application for reissued title must be made at the local county treasurer's motor vehicle office. Bring the notarized lien release and a title will be requested and mailed to you within 5 to 7 days.

Mail or take completed application to the County Treasurer's Motor Vehicle Office. DO NOT send cash.

Do I get my title back, if so when? Your Kansas title will be mailed to you if there is not a lien against the vehicle. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. If there is a lien, the title will not be printed until the lien is paid off and a lien release has been submitted with the State of Kansas.

If the lien has been paid off, use the assignment portion of the Lienholder Consent to Transfer Ownership, Form TR-128, attach the lien release in lieu of the lienholder's portion of the consent and go to your local county treasurer's motor vehicle office and make application for title.
