Neither the State of California nor CAMTC requires you to be certified to provide massage for compensation in California. Please note that some cities and counties do require CAMTC certification. We recommend that you check with your local city and county regarding their requirements.

Obtain, or already be in possession of, a CAMTC certificate or SF DPH Massage Practitioner License. Register your massage business at TTX. Submit a completed Outcall Massage Permit Application to SF DPH in person at 49 South Van Ness Ave., Suite 600, SF, 94103.

The State of California does not license the massage profession. The California Massage Therapy Council, a private non-profit corporation, issues voluntary certifications to massage professionals that meet the requirements in the Massage Therapy Act. CAMTC Certification is voluntary.

To obtain CAMTC certification, you must attend a CAMTC-approved massage therapy school in California with a program length of 500 hours or more. Of those 500 hours, a minimum of 100 must be in anatomy and physiology, contraindications, health and hygiene, and business and ethics.
