Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that uses fine crystals and a vacuum to remove dead skin cells. It can be used on the face, neck, chest, back and hands. The aim is to reduce fine lines, minor scars, wrinkles and age spots, and make the skin smoother and younger looking.

Microdermabrasion (MDA) is a minimally invasive epidermal resurfacing procedure used to treat uneven skin tone/texture, photoaging, striae, melasma, and scars, including acne scars. It is widely available and one of the most common nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States.

Microdermabrasion is not suitable for people with, bleeding disorders, open sores, warts or sunburn, or those who develop keloid scars should avoid the technique.

If the microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment and only affects the outermost layer of the skin or the stratum corneum, then a licensed cosmetician or esthetician may perform the treatment.

There are two main types of microdermabrasion procedures—crystal microdermabrasion and diamond microdermabrasion. Both are used to exfoliate the skin thoroughly.

We recommend cleansing the skin and then patting gently to get rid of excess water. While the skin is damp (this avoids dragging the skin), apply the Microdermabrasion by massaging in circular motions before letting it sit for around 30 seconds. Then rinse.

What is microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer, and has many benefits. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks.

Microdermabrasion Contraindications & After Care Cuts/Abrasions. Scar tissue (6 months minor operation, 2 years major operation) Bruising/Swelling. Areas where topical Roaccutane has been used. Undiagnosed lumps and bumps. Sunburn. Heat rash. Recent fractures (3 months)
