An organism's energy role in an ecosystem may be that of a producer, consumer, or decomposer. Producer- An organism that makes its own food. Consumer- An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms.

The energy roles within an ecosystem are producer, consumer, and decomposer.

Energy is acquired by living things in three ways: photosynthesis, chemosynthesis, and the consumption and digestion of other living or previously living organisms by heterotrophs.

Predators are animals that eat a prey animal. Scavengers eat organisms that are already dead. Decomposers break down dead plants and animals into component parts, including nutrients. Producers create food energy.

Tadpoles play important roles in aquatic food webs as they can reach high densities and biomass, serve as important prey for other consumers, and transfer nutrients and energy between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems (Capps, Berven, & Tiegs, 2015; Whiles et al., 2006).

Producers convert this sunlight into their food and consumers feed on the producers. The energy level from the sun to the producers decrease and gets passed onto the next trophic level. The main source of energy for all three energy roles is through sunlight.

The living organisms in an ecosystem can be divided into three categories: producers, consumers and decomposers. They are all important parts of an ecosystem. Producers are the green plants.
