This national effort promotes the development and uptake of “maternal safety bundles.” AIM bundles are sets of straightforward proven practices used in birthing facilities that improve patient outcomes and reduce severe illness and death. Research shows that these practices are effective in improving health outcomes.

Pregnant individuals who have income over 213 percent up to 322 percent of the FPL may be eligible for the Medi-Cal Access Program (MCAP). Pregnant individuals who are not eligible for full-scope or pregnancy-related Medi-Cal may qualify for the MCAP, regardless of citizenship and immigration status.

Full-Scope Medi-Cal It automatically includes prenatal care, labor and delivery, and post-partum care for a year after pregnancy, plus all other medically necessary care, dental, and mental health.

The Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM) program is low-cost health care coverage for pregnant women living in California. Their newborns may be covered by the Healthy Families program. Medi-Cal Access Program (MCAP) is administered through the Department of Health Care Services. MCAP provides low-cost comprehensive health care for pregnant persons for the duration of their pregnancy and up to 365 days post-partum. Newborns may be covered by the Medi-Cal Access Infant Program for up to two years.

Income-based Medi-Cal covers children 18 or younger if the total combined income of everybody who lives in the same household is 266% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) or less ($79,800 per year or less for a family of four).
