The regulatory guidelines require investors to mention nominees for their fund folios or else inform the fund house that they wish to opt out of nominations by September 30. The capital markets regulator, Sebi, has extended the last date for mutual fund nominations to 30th September 2023.

In the absence of a nominee, legal heirs of the deceased would need to submit various documents to banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, etc., to get investments and assets transferred in their name.

You can change your nominations by writing to your fund house or by amending them in your investment accounts held with online platforms. This can be done using permissible online and offline modes. In the case of joint holdings, make it a point that the same is backed by signatures or validation of all the investors.
