American Legion Baseball in the Modern Era American Legion Baseball enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues. Today, the program registers nearly 4,000 teams across the United States and Canada. Youths, ages 15 to 19, are eligible to participate.

With teams of players ages 13-19 stretching across the state from as far Northwest as Erie, Northeast as Scranton, Southwest as Waynesburg, and Southeast as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the largest participant in American Legion Baseball in the country with over 500 teams participating each year.

American Legion Baseball is a variety of amateur baseball played by 13-to-19-year-olds in fifty states in the U.S. and Canada. More than 3,500 teams participate each year. The American Legion Department of South Dakota established the program in 1925 at Milbank, South Dakota.

(a) The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 2.61 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length.
