How does diving scoring work college?

A group of five judges awards divers with a score out of 10 upon completion of the dive. After totaling the points awarded, the highest and lowest diving scores are removed, and the remaining points are added together. Once added, the total is then multiplied by the degree of difficulty, also known as the tariff.

But the final belonged to Quan, who thrilled and amazed in equal measure to take an unforgettable diving gold. Quan, who won the 2020 national championships at only 13 years old, executed two dives the judges scored unanimously as 10, with a third given 10 after two judges' scores were discounted.

After watching a dive, each official presents his or her score. Those three scores are added together and then multiplied by the degree of difficulty in order to get the total score of a dive. The degree of difficulty is a number from 1.0 to 3.4, based on the difficulty of the individual dive.

The high and low of each of the three individual scores will be eliminated, and the high and the low of the five synchronised scores will be eliminated, and the remaining five scores totalled. This is then reduced by 3/5 (0.6) in the tradition that a diver's score comes from three judges.

The highest two scores and the lowest two scores for each dive are then removed to ensure only the most even judgements are considered and eradicate the possibility of the judges influencing the points one way or the other.

Individual events are scored by a panel of seven judges who recommend a score between 0 (completely failed) to 10 (excellent). The top two scores and the bottom two scores are discarded; the remaining three scores are added together and multiplied by the dive's difficulty rating, known as the degree of difficulty.

For diving in particular, judges are trained to look for certain characteristics of a dive, such as angle of entry, height of splash, and distance of the dive from the end of the board, to score each dive on a scale of 0 to 10, where a 0 is a failed dive and a 10 is a perfect dive.
