From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit or R&D Tax Credit is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States.

To be eligible, a company must meet two requirements: Have less than $5 million in gross receipts for the credit year. Have no more than five years of gross receipts.
