What's the tax rate in VA?

Virginia's state sales and use tax rate is 4.3%. There is an additional 1% local tax, for a total of a 5.3% combined sales tax on most Virginia purchases.

DC does not require a state tax identification number. State S corporation election. DC does not recognize the federal S corporation election and does not require a state-level S corporation election. You can still have an S corporation in DC.

The current sales and use tax rate in D.C. is 5.75%, effective October 1, 2018, the rate will be 6%.

For 2018, the corporate franchise tax is assessed at a flat rate of 8.25%. (Rates have varied over the years.) The tax is based on net income derived from business in DC. There is a minimum tax of $250 if DC gross receipts are $1 million or less.

The DC Unincorporated Business Franchise Tax is imposed on certain businesses operating in the District with gross receipts of $12,000 or greater. The tax applies to LLC, partnerships, S-Corps and certain individuals and is filed on Form D-30. Taxpayers are subject to tax at a rate of 9.2% on net profits.
