A placer claim is a rectangular plot of ground. All angles of a claim must be right angles, except in the case where a boundary line of a previously located claim is adopted as common to both locations. The length of a regular placer claim from post one to post two is 500 feet along a baseline.

The Eagle Gold Mine is the newest mine and largest gold mine in Yukon history. The Eagle Gold Mine produces [gold] doré from a conventional open pit operation with a three-stage crushing plant, in-valley heap leach and carbon-in-leach adsorption-desorption gold recovery plant.

Federal statute limits a lode claim to a maximum of 1,500 feet in length along the vein or lode. Their width is a maximum of 600 feet, 300 feet on either side of the centerline of the vein or lode.

In Yukon, you stake a claim by putting a series of posts in the ground. This means you must travel to the area. You cannot stake a claim on a map or online. There are different types of placer claims you can stake.

Anyone 18 years or older can stake a claim for themselves, a corporation or another person. There is no requirement for Canadian citizenship or Yukon residency. Corporations wanting to hold claims, or do other business related to claims, must be registered with the Government of Yukon Corporate Affairs.

Claims staked on Federal-managed lands fall under Federal rules. Typically, the claim size is limited to 660'x 1320', or 20 acres (81,000 m2). The claim must be either placer or lode, and the discovery point must be clearly marked.
