Overview. The purpose of subrecipient monitoring is to ensure that the subaward is being used for the authorized purpose, in compliance with the Federal statutes, regulations and the terms and conditions of the subaward, and the subaward performance goals are achieved.

The audit must include appropriate financial statements including the Schedule of Federal Awards. Additionally, a subrecipient must take corrective action promptly on adverse audit findings, report on corrective action plans and also disclose the status of prior audit findings.

The general purpose of subrecipient monitoring is to ensure: ► The subaward is used for authorized purposes and is implemented in compliance with applicable federal law (statutes and regulations).

The principal investigator (PI) is responsible for monitoring all fiscal and programmatic aspects of a subaward to include: Ensuring that the subrecipient is adhering to the terms of the contract both technically and financially and responding to university requests in a timely manner.

A subrecipient is a non-federal entity that receives a subaward from a pass-through entity to carry out part of a federal program but does not include an individual that is a beneficiary of such program. A subrecipient may also be a recipient of other federal awards directly from a federal awarding agency.
