Most departments allow students to receive academic credit for completing an internship relevant to their major. Students who wish to enroll in an internship for credit should discuss this option with their Academic Advisor.

With a F-1 visa, students can do an internship under a work authorization status through Curricular Practical Training, or CPT. Through CPT, your internship must be related to your degree and you need to have completed at least two full-time semesters.

Internships in France are open to both French nationals and international students. International (non-EU) students must have a valid student visa and sometimes a work permit, depending on their nationality and the duration of the internship.

If the duration of your work placement does not exceed 90 days, you will be issued a short-stay visa; If the duration of your work placement exceeds 90 days, you will be issued a long-stay visa, equivalent to a residence permit, which you will have to have validated following your arrival in France.

EE Credit Be administered by an academic school, department, curricula, or University unit. Require a minimum of 100 hours of service or work. Have a unit or departmental faculty adviser to assist students with setting appropriate goals and providing guidance throughout the experience.

If less than 90 days, it will be a multiple entry visa. For internships lasting longer than 90 days, you will have one entry until you apply, in France, for your residence permit (carte de sejour). Citizens of the European Union, Andorra, Monaco and Switzerland are exempt from this visa.

Many international and national companies have their headquarters in big cities like Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. So you'll have an easier time finding internships in these cities. Especially in Paris, there're some options for English-speaking internships.

An internship helps prepare you for your future career. It is short-term work experience that can be a component of, or in addition to, your university degree. You can choose to do either full or part-time internships in a European country.
