By registering all eligible young men, the Selective Service System ensures a fair and equitable draft, if ever required; however, there has not been a draft since 1973. Homeless Residents You still must submit the required documentation to DMV for proof of identity and Social Security number. You must also submit a completed Proof of Residency and No Fee Identification Card form, which you can get from certified social service agencies approved by the DC Department of Human Services.

Virtual Testing and Test Proctoring Center Appointments An appointment is required to take the test virtually and at the Test Proctoring Center. Virtual testing is only available specifically for the standard and the Graduated License Program (GRAD) (16-20 years old) knowledge tests.

DMV accepts payments in the form of cash, check, money order or credit card.

DC DMV will accept walk-ins Wednesday through Saturday at any service center. Tuesdays will remain by appointment only for those seeking to obtain a Limited Purpose credential. An appointment is required by everyone to take the road skills test, and walk-ins are not accepted.

You must have proof of identity (full legal name and date of birth), proof of social security, and proof of residency to obtain a driver license or non-driver identification. For licenses, we also require proof of ability to drive. You must bring original documents.
