When you join the Coast Guard Auxiliary, you could find yourself on patrol saving lives and property, assisting in marine safety and environmental protection, radio watchstanding, educating the public in boating safety and much more. That's what our members do.

Retired status is designed to recognize the continuos significant contributions of those Auxiliarists who no longer desire or who are not able to participate in the authorized activities. Retired status is not a membership category and is not intended for all members.

The Commandant has assigned primary responsibility for the accomplishment of certain missions to the Auxiliary as an organization.

When you qualify through training, you can take part in Search and Rescue operations, stand radio watch at the Coast Guard Station, work with the Marine Safety Office on pollution matters or work in the Recruiting Office. Auxiliarists aren't paid with money, but with satisfaction.

The Auxiliary is an organization of uniformed volunteers. Membership is open to any citizen of the U.S. and its territories and possessions who is seventeen years of age or older (no mandatory maximum age) and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, Inc. (CGAuxA, Inc.).

How much does it cost to be a member? Annual Dues vary between Flotilla's, but are generally in the range of $55, you will also need to purchase some uniform items. Your area of interest my incur additional costs for additional required equipment.

The average age of an auxiliarist is about 63 years of age and an important fact to consider is that there are numerous ladders (NOT Stairs) that must be negotiated many times throughout the day.
