NYS DHR has a hotline, 1-800-HARASS-3. This hotline can both provide information regarding filing a sexual harassment complaint as well as provide you with a referral to a volunteer attorney experienced in sexual harassment matters who can provide you with limited free assistance and counsel over the phone.

Use the EEOC's public portal to follow the complaint process. Submit an online inquiry. Schedule an interview with someone from the EEOC. Submit a charge of discrimination.

In the first paragraph, introduce yourself and state your grievance about the problematic recent events. In the following body of text (typically 2-3 paragraphs) recount each incident of workplace harassment exactly as you remember it (even if profane language was involved).

To begin with, a harassing act must be done with an intent to “kill, injure, harass, or intimidate another person” and then: Places the other person in reasonable fear of substantial bodily harm (such behavior will more often be charged as a domestic assault, rather than criminal harassment);

Reporting. If you decide that reporting is right for you, start by talking to the Title IX Coordinator for your school, whose contact information should be available on your school's website or in your student handbook. Or, you can report to a school employee who you trust.

Under New York Law, Harassment in the Second Degree is a Violation. This charge is punishable by up to 15 days in jail. Practically speaking, however, most New York violation charges will result in a “time served” sentence, which oftentimes is no jail time at all or just the time spent in arrest processing.

You have legal rights to pursue justice for your harassment This means that any victim of harassment in the workplace has the right to pursue legal recourse against their harasser or their employee.
