All Straumann® permanent abutments are torqued in at 35 Ncm; all occlusal Straumann screws are torqued in at 15 Ncm.

One of the ways implant types differ is in how the prosthesis attaches to the implant — whether by cement or a removable screw. Cemented attachments feature a crown cemented to the implant. On the other hand, screw-retained implants screw into the post through the abutment.

CrossFit®: Two types of Screw-retained abutments are available, type A and type B. This enables the axis to be corrected in 8 different alignments (in 45° graduations). The Straumann® Bone Level Implant lines put a strong emphasis on esthetic considerations.

There are two classes of abutments : prefabricated and custom made.

Screw-retained abutments (Multi-unit abutments) are made from surgical grade titanium alloy. They provide a non-engaging design and low height to flexibly accommodate also low height restorations for example for limited interarch spaces. Low conus angles provide tolerance with regards to the insertion path angles.

As previously mentioned, screw-retained crowns eliminate concerns with residual cement because the abutment and crown are cemented together in the lab, eliminating the risk of leaving behind cement during intraoral cementation.

The dental abutment screw is the device that is used to secure the abutment to the implant. This fastener is threaded and is typically tightened until it reaches its final seating position.

Screw-retained restorations on the other hand have the advantage of more predictable retrievability. They require a minimal amount of interocclusal space and are easier to remove when hygiene maintenance, repairs or surgical interventions are required.
