Bereavement Support Payment is a benefit that you may be able to claim if your spouse, civil partner or cohabiting partner (provided you have a child or children) died after 6 April 2017. This benefit isn't means-tested, so you can make a claim regardless of your income or whether you're in work.

You can: call the Bereavement Service helpline on 0800 151 2012 (textphone 0800 731 0464) download a claim form on the GOV.UK website and apply by post. apply online on the GOV.UK website (though this is a trial service, so it only allows a small number of daily applications)

You can apply up to 21 months after they died, however you will get fewer monthly payments. It's easy to claim for the payments. You can apply over the phone by calling the Bereavement Service helpline or by filling out a form, which you can download or get through the post from your local Jobcentre Plus.

Bereavement Support Payment is a benefit paid to widows, widowers, surviving civil partners or cohabiting partners who are bereaved on or after 6 April 2017. It replaces Bereavement Allowance, Widowed Parent's Allowance and Bereavement Payment for people whose partner died on or after 6 April 2017.

Bereavement benefits You may be able to get: Funeral Expenses Payment - to help towards the cost of a funeral if you're on a low income. Bereavement Support Payment - if your husband, wife or civil partner died in the last 21 months, or if your partner you were living with as though married died after 6 April 2017.

War Widow's or Widower's Pension You may be able to get War Widow's or Widower Pension - if your husband, wife or civil partner died because of their service in the Armed Forces or because of a war.

The amount you'll get depends on how much your partner paid in National Insurance contributions. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will check this for you when you claim. The most you can get is £126.35 a week. Widowed Parent's Allowance might affect other benefits you're getting.
