You can obtain a Declaration of Domicile form at the Records, Taxes and Treasury Division, Broward County Governmental Center Room 114, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, or download a form online.

A) File Declaration of Domicile with the Clerk of Court in the Florida county where one resides. B) Obtain Florida drivers license, Florida vehicle registration and voters registration card. C) If you own property in Florida, file for a Homestead Exemption in the county in which you reside.

Florida Statute §222.17 states that a person can show intent to maintain a Florida residence as a permanent home by filing a sworn Declaration of Domicile with the Clerk of the Courts. You can submit the form with all the requirements by mail or in person at Miami-Dade County Courthouse East.

You may download a domicile form or obtain one at any Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller location. Bring or mail the form to a Clerk's office location to be recorded. You must bring some form of legal identification if you need your document notarized.

Each person must present proof of identity with a picture, such as a Florida Driver's License, passport or state-issued identification card. Resident aliens must have permanent green cards. The fee for recording a Declaration of Domicile is $10, if the document is notarized before it is brought in.

Once submitted, the Affidavit of Domicile will be recorded in the public records of the county where you live.
