What is NYSLRS special accidental death benefit?

The accidental death benefit is a lifetime pension if paid to a surviving spouse or dependent parent. The benefit is equal to 50 percent of your FAE (less any workers' compensation benefit paid or payable because of your death).

The Benefit If you retire with 20 or more years of service credit, your retirement benefit will be 2 percent of your Final Average Salary (FAS) for each year of service credit. With less than 20 years of service credit, your benefit will be 1.66 percent of your FAS for each year of service credit.

Defined benefit pension plans, including your NYSLRS plan, are calculated based on a preset formula and provide a specified payment amount at retirement. These plans are supported by contributions from both members and employers.

Best-Funded, Best-Managed The New York State Common Retirement Fund holds and invests the assets of NYSLRS on behalf of members, retirees and their beneficiaries and continues to be one of the best-funded and best-managed public pension funds in the nation.
