The Bands of America adjudication system is a criteria reference system, in which a band showing proficiency in particular criteria, or meeting certain criteria at a certain level, falls within a scoring range.

An adjudicator is someone who decides on a winner at a competition for music or theatre. The adjudicator will always be somebody who has a lot of experience in what he is adjudicating. In big international festivals, a team of several adjudicators may decide together on the winners.

The definition of adjudication is “a formal judgment.” Expect adjudicators to assess your ensemble based on the composer's score. Adjudicators should hear from the performing ensemble what they see printed in the music.

Adjudication refers to the legal process of resolving a dispute or deciding a case. When a claim is brought, courts identify the rights of the parties at that particular moment by analyzing what were, in law, the rights and wrongs of their actions when they occurred.

In an adjudicated choral festival, one or more “expert” clinicians (hereafter referred to as adjudicators) evaluate the performance of the various choirs ing to standards, relying on his or her expertise as a choral musician.

Honesty and integrity. Being honest and impartial are a key characteristic of an effective Adjudicator and that attribute applies for as long as an adjudicator holds him or herself out. Of course, we have seen that some adjudicators come unstruck right at the start of the process when they accept appointments.
