All dogs three months of age and older living in Pennsylvania must be licensed by January 1 of each year. Violators will be cited up to $300 per violation, plus court costs. There are two types of licenses: an annual license and a lifetime license.

For a lifetime license the dog must be either microchipped or tattooed. If the animal is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50 and lifetime fee is $31.50. Discounts are available to older adults and people with disabilities.

Purchase a license from your local county treasurer or issuing agent. An annual license is $8.50, and a lifetime license is $51.50.

Dogs must be micro chipped to be eligible for a lifetime dog license. Lifetime Licenses can be purchased by mail or in person at the Treasurer's office. A veterinarian or representative from a PA Licensed kennel must complete the Permanent Identification Verification Form.

Applications are available at your local post office, your veterinarian's office, magistrate office, or can be down-loaded from this website or from the Department of Agriculture's website. If your pet has lost a current licensed dog tag or a permanent lifetime tag, you may purchase a duplicate tag for $1.50.
