How do I renew my CA CNA license? California CNAs need 48 hours of continuing education every 2 years to renew their license. A maximum of 24 of the 48 hours may be taken online (the rest need to be in a live setting). They can not take more than 12 hours of training per day.

LVN or RN currently licensed in the State of California. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Licensees Under the California Department of Public Health CNAs: During the state of emergency, CNAs are allowed to complete any or all of the 48 hours of in-service/CEU through an online program or a distance learning program. Typically CNAs are limited to 24 hours of online instruction.

Students can generally expect to complete their training and be ready to take their state certification exam to become a licensed or certified nurse assistant (CNA) within 4 to 8 weeks of beginning their training.

Application Requirements: At least (16) years of age. Valid Identification: Birth Certificate, State Issues ID, and/or Driver's License. Commitment to completing a CDPH (the California Department of Public Health) approved training program. Obtain criminal record clearance: Background check/fingerprinting.

The program can be completed in 6-15 weeks and requires 50 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of clinical training, that will be under the direct supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN). Some accelerated programs offer 4-week CNA classes as well.

Complete state-recognized training - CNA programs in California will have at least 60 hours of classroom teaching and 100 hours of hands-on training.
