Great place to be stationed Wonderful Air Force base that was very mission driven while I was there. I enjoyed the people I worked with and am very proud of the work we did. The base has great facilities and even it's own golf course.

Ramstein is a great location. No need to freak out. I spent 8 years near Ramstein at Spangdahlem and it was the best! Don't know much about the housing, usually as a civilian you will receive a housing allowance or supplement to reflect the higher costs for housing in that area vs.

The wing also conducts USAFE's only airlift, airdrop and aeromedical evacuation operations flying C-21, C-37 and C-130J aircraft, as well as provide combat airlift and operate the Air Force's premier installation to enable and assure strategic capabilities.

There are two Visitor Control Centers (VCC) located at Ramstein Air Base. The Ramstein West Gate VCC is located at Bldg. 134 and is open 7-days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Rhine Ordnance Barracks Medical Center (ROBMC) VCC is located at Bldg. 800 and is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Today, the base is home to the Allied Air Command, which is responsible to Joint Force Command Brunssum, the only and main NATO command unit on Ramstein AB.

There are several locations where military family housing is located in addition to Ramstein Air Base. Landstuhl and Vogelweh are within 15-30 minutes of Ramstein Air Base. The inventory consists of three- and four-story multi-unit stairwell buildings and townhouses.

Those qualities led the Department of Defense to name Ramstein Air Base the best installation in the Air Force as the winner of the 2022 Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence.
