If the estimated static pressure resistance is greater than the available static pressure of the fan, the airflow cfm delivered by the fan decreases until the system pressures match.

To earn the ENERGY STAR, eligible commercial buildings must earn an 1–100 ENERGY STAR score of 75 or higher—indicating that they operate more efficiently than at least 75% of similar buildings nationwide. Before applying, a building's application must be verified by a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.

ENERGY STAR certified ventilation fans that include lighting use 70% less energy on average than standard models. Must meet maximum allowable sound levels (in sones), minimum efficacy levels (in cubic feet of airflow per minute per watt (cfm/W)), and a percentage of 0.1 in.

The pressure generated by fans in ductwork is typically very small. An accurate measurement of static presure is critical to proper fan selection however. Static pressure in fan systems is typically less than 2" SP, or 0.072 Psi.
