DC offers Paid Family Leave benefits so you don't have to choose between caring for your loved ones and earning income. Parental Leave provides twelve (12) weeks of benefits in a year to bond with a new child. This is a benefit...

An applicant may receive a maximum of 12 weeks of benefits in a 52-week period for parental, family, and medical leave. You may still take 2 additional weeks of prenatal leave as long as you have not already taken the full 12 weeks of medical leave.

You are eligible for Paid Family Leave benefits if you: Are a covered worker in DC. Generally, eligible workers spend a majority of their time working the District. Your employer must report your wages to DC for the purposes of unemployment insurance for you to be eligible for paid family leave.

Effective October 1, 2022: The District increased the duration of Paid Leave benefits to a maximum of twelve weeks, with an additional two weeks of pre-natal leave available. The maximum weekly benefit amount is $1,049/week.

The PFL tax for Q1/2022 and Q2/2022 is 0.62 percent of gross wages. For Q3/2022 and Q4/2022 the PFL tax rate is 0.26 percent. Wage reports submitted through the Employer Self-Service Portal (ESSP) will be applied at the appropriate tax rate for the quarter.

You are eligible for Paid Family Leave benefits if you: Are a covered worker in DC. Generally, eligible workers spend a majority of their time working the District. Your employer must report your wages to DC for the purposes of unemployment insurance for you to be eligible for paid family leave.

D.C. employers must contribute 0.62% of each applicable employee's wages. Qualified employees can take paid time off for certain family- or medical-related situations. Duration of time off depends on the reason for the leave. Self-employed individuals can opt into the program.

As of October 1, 2022 the Paid Leave Act provides up to: 2 weeks to care for your pregnancy. 12 weeks to bond with a new child. 12 weeks to care for a family member with a serious health condition.

If you are eligible for Paid Family Leave in the District of Columbia, you may receive a weekly benefit amount which is based on your weekly wages. The current maximum weekly benefit amount is $1,118. The calculation will be based off of a minimum wage of $17.00 per hour.

If paid leave taken under the District's program also qualifies as protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or the District's Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA), the paid leave taken shall run concurrently with, and not in addition to, the leave taken under FMLA or DCFMLA.
