As a Net Energy Metering customer, you receive a NEM summary on your SDG&E bill. Your bill contains charges for electricity you use from the grid, minus any available credit you've earned for excess energy your system produced.

During a sunny San Diego day, your solar system can generate enough energy to power you through the afternoon and into evening. With Net Energy Metering, if you generate more than you use, SDG&E will give you credit and then put the energy on the grid for everyone else to use.

Does SDG&E have any solar rebates or incentives? No, San Diego Gas & Electric does not offer any solar rebates or incentives. The state of California, on the other hand, does offer a handful of solar rebates for homeowners who qualify, including two different low-income solar rebates.

If the energy produced by the system is greater than the energy you are using at that time, then the excess energy produced is credited to that month's bill at the NEM 2.0 credit rate - 7.6 cents per kilowatt hour.

California's NEM 3.0 solar billing is an entirely different animal than 1:1 net metering. For customers of SCE, PG&E, and SDG&E, the NEM 3.0 solar billing rates do not give as much value to the surplus solar you send to the grid as what you're charged to draw power from the grid in the evening.

Average San Diego Gas & Electric hourly pay ranges from approximately $22.55 per hour for Intern to $63.60 per hour for Network Systems Operator.

The NEM 2.0 decision brought three key changes to the original policy, including interconnection fees, monthly charges and time-of-use energy plans. Interconnection fees are a one-time fee paid to the utility company ranging from $75 to $145. For utility scale installations greater than one megawatt, the fee is $800.

Once the city passes the solar system they usually contact SDG&E that day for a Permission to Operate (PTO). PTO takes 2-5 business days. Once you have PTO, your system is automatically up and running. We set up your monitoring system so you can see your system production right away!
