The purpose of a boiler inspection is to provide assurance of equipment integrity to minimize safety issues with operating a pressure vessel. A minimal frequency is established by law and the Insurance Company that is covering customer liability in case of any operational failures.

Inspection requirements All boiler installations require a hydrostatic test applied to the boiler. The test pressure should be approximately 75 percent of the safety valve set pressure. Example: 15 psi safety valve set pressure, 11 psi hydrostatic test pressure. The test pressure must hold for at least 10 minutes.

Daily Maintenance Check boiler water level in the sight glass and the steam pressure on the gauge to the steam boilers. Check temperature reading and water pressure on hot water boilers. Record this in your logbook.

Safe boiler operation. All boilers, unless specifically exempted by Minnesota Statutes, section 326B. 988, must be operated, maintained, and attended by an operating engineer in a prudent and attentive manner to avoid endangering human life and property.

Daily maintenance checklist Keep track of boiler parameters such as fuel consumed, temperature, and pressure. This ensures the boiler system is operating as expected. Regularly check the pressure readings for output steam as well as the water inlet. Observe the furnace periodically through the sight port.
