Today, MetLife Insurance Company USA is Brighthouse Life Insurance Company, licensed in 49 states.

MetLife no longer sells life insurance to individuals. Its spinoff company, Brighthouse Financial, sells a variety of individual life insurance policies. MetLife has been a well-known brand name in the life insurance business since 1868.

Why does MetLife no longer sell individual life insurance or annuities through in-person agents? We have separated part of our U.S. business from MetLife to become its own company, called Brighthouse Financial, Inc. As a separate company, Brighthouse Financial focuses on retail products for consumers.

MetLife's Total Control Account® (TCA) can reduce the worry of having to make financial decisions while you are grieving the loss of a loved one. We pay the full amount owed to you by placing the proceeds from your life insurance claim into the TCA to provide you the time you need to best decide how to use your funds.

What is the Total Control Account? MetLife's Total Control Account (TCA) is an interest-bearing, no fee* account designed with beneficiaries in mind. Although not a bank account, it's a lot like a checking account, but with several advantages.

Since the MetLife TCA is not a bank account, it is not insured by the FDIC or any government agency. Instead, MetLife guarantees the full amount in the MetLife TCA, including all interest earned.

Account type/account opening: Total Control Checking is a demand deposit checking account that generally allows you to withdraw your money without advance notice to us. Your Total Control Checking account won't be considered "opened" until it's funded. This means your balance must be at least a penny.

MetLife no longer sells life insurance to individuals. Its spinoff company, Brighthouse Financial, sells a variety of individual life insurance policies. MetLife has been a well-known brand name in the life insurance business since 1868.

MetLife's Total Control Account® (TCA) can reduce the worry of having to make financial decisions while you are grieving the loss of a loved one.

The purpose of MetLife establishing Brighthouse Financial was so that the insurance provider could focus solely on selling life insurance, as well as annuities, to individuals. MetLife still continues to exist, but they only focus on selling their products to companies that can be used as employee benefits.
