A motor vehicle, including a motorcycle, which has a model year of 1945 or earlier and which has not been altered or modified from the original manufacturer's specifications qualifies for Antique license plates.

The Division of Motor Vehicles also provides a Statement of Vehicle Transfer (MV2488) for this purpose. Completing this DMV form will help eliminate your liability if the new owner fails to properly register the vehicle. These forms are available at DMV Service Centers and at our department.

If you are transferring Collector plates from a vehicle you no longer own, you must pay the same fee as when applying for a second or subsequent collector vehicle registration.

A car is considered a classic in Wisconsin if it's at least 20 years old and has not been altered from the original vehicle. When a vehicle in Wisconsin meets these requirements, the owner can register it as a collector's vehicle, which will limit the car's use.
