AER doesn't charge late fees for its zero interest loans, but it does require you to repay them. Your payment amounts will be determined by your AER officer.

AER does not provide funds: For nonessentials. To finance ordinary leave or vacation. To pay fines or legal expenses.

AER accepts personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders and electronic bill pay from your personal bank. Please include “Army Emergency Relief,” our address and your Client ID with your payment.

AER provides funds to help Soldiers with immediate financial needs with rent, utilities, emergency travel, etc. AER also provides emergency funds to Soldiers' orphans and Surviving Spouses and offers undergraduate scholarships to Spouses and Children of both active and retired Soldiers.

No limits on what the loan can fund: The AER office is very particular about what the proceeds of an AER loan can and cannot go toward. For example, AER prevents you from using the proceeds for debt consolidation, credit card bills or for vacationing purposes.

But certain uses like debt consolidation and legal expenses don't qualify. Members of other military branches may qualify for interest-free loans from organizations similar to AER, such as the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or the Air Force Aid Society. Just beware of lenders that offer high-interest loans.

And if you qualify for a loan through AER, you may receive your loan funds within 48 hours of your request.
