After a reportable accident, each driver is required to complete and submit an Operator's Proof of Insurance/Crash Report within ten days to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

In Indiana, you have 10 days from the date of your accident to submit this crash report to the BMV. If you are having trouble finding or completing the report yourself, you can contact your local law enforcement or the Bureau of Motor Vehicles at 888-692-6841 for assistance.

In Indiana, you are required by law to report any car accidents that involve injury, death or entrapment of another person. You must also report accidents that involve damage to property, excluding the vehicles involved.

Call the Police —Notify the police of the accident and remain at the scene until a law enforcement officer arrives. If the accident is minor, move the vehicles off the road out of active traffic lanes. If anyone was injured, do not move your vehicle or any debris on the road until the police arrive.

If anyone was injured, there was moderate to severe property damage or you can't locate the vehicle owner, then you are required by Indiana law to report the crash. The only exceptions to most accident reporting requirements are off-road vehicles and snowmobiles.

In Indiana, every motorist must carry the following: Bodily injury liability: Minimum of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. Property damage liability: Minimum of $25,000 per accident. Uninsured motorist bodily injury: Minimum of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.

The Indiana Officer's Standard Crash Report is always completed for accidents that result in bodily injury, death, or at least $1,000 in property damage. The reports are maintained by the Indiana State Police. For the most part, you have to have a vested interest in the incident to obtain a copy of the crash.

Indiana is not a no-fault state. It is a fault state where you file a claim against the negligent driver's policy. So, if you caused the accident, the other driver would file a claim with your insurer.
