Can you waive into the Louisiana bar?

Bylaws of the Louisiana State Bar Association, § 1. However, dues waivers may be available for any attorney experiencing illness, financial hardship, or any other extraordinary circumstances.

Now, traditionally, an attorney is a person that has graduated law school, passed the bar exam, and is licensed. A lawyer would be someone that has graduated law school but has not been admitted to practice. However, Florida does not make a distinction between these terms.

The Supreme Court has codified in Bar rules that it's permissible for an out-of-state licensed attorney to live in Florida and work remotely on matters not connected to Florida, so long as the lawyer and any firm employing the lawyer do not hold out to the public as having a Florida presence.

Please note that (among others), California, Florida, and South Carolina are not reciprocal jurisdictions with Georgia, which means that you cannot be admitted to practice on motion without examination in Georgia when applying based on your admission in one of those jurisdictions.

Georgia Reciprocity Georgia offers admission on motion to attorneys from the following states: AL, AK, AZ, CO, CT, DC, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, VI, WA, WI, WV, and WY.

There is no reciprocity between Florida and any other jurisdiction. Submission to the Florida Bar Examination and completion of a character and fitness investigation is required of all applicants.

Appearance by students as defense counsel in a criminal matter in any trial court must be confined to misdemeanors, and the student must be under the direct supervision of licensed Iowa counsel who must be personally present.

The Bar Examination Application is available only to applicants who hold a valid Certification of Fitness to Practice Law in Georgia.
