U.S. citizens use this form to request that USCIS classify an orphan as an immediate relative.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements? You must be a U.S. citizen to file Form I-600A. permanent resident, or in another lawful immigration status. If you are unmarried, you must be at least 24 years of age to file Form I-600A and at least 25 years of age to file Form I-600.

U.S. citizens who plan to adopt an orphan from a non-Hague Convention country use this form to request that USCIS determine their suitability and eligibility as prospective adoptive parents.

Approximately 75 days after filing you will receive notice from Citizenship and Immigration Services Office as to approval of your application.

This process will generally involve filing a Form I-600A, Application for Advance Processing of an Orphan Petition, and a Form I-600, Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative. In general, the Form I-600 must be filed before the child's 16th birthday unless an exception applies.
