There are two different grade point averages or GPAs that are calculated for each high school student. The unweighted GPA is a traditional GPA based on a 4.0 scale where all courses are counted equally. The GPA for rank or weighted GPA is based on a weighted 5.0 scale where different courses carry different weights.

FISD Gifted and Talented Testing. Frisco ISD administers two tests for admission into their Gifted and Talented program: the CogAT Form 7 and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. They universally screen all students in the 2nd and 5th grades who are not already in the program.

Many of the HAIS schools require a combination of two assessments in order to determine G/T status: the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT), and the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). These tests are usually taken by 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

Pursuant to Section 29.123 of the Texas Education Code (TEC), the State Plan forms the basis of G/T standards of services and divides them into the categories of accountability and exemplary. The plan offers an outline for ser- vices without prohibitive regulation.
