Composting dog waste is a simple and inexpensive method for disposing of dog waste that can enhance the environment and reduce the amount of waste deposited in landfills2. Dog waste is a safe soil additive for revegetation and landscaping when it is composted properly.

Austin Resource Recovery provides services designed to transform waste into resources and keep our community clean. Trash and composting are coll- ected every week. Recycling is collected every other week.

Feces cannot be composted in the green cart. Please seal animal waste in a plastic bag before putting it in your trash cart. You also may flush your pet's waste down the toilet; however, do not flush plastic bags or kitty litter down your toilet.

Do not put pet waste or litter box absorbents in your organics (green) cart.

The materials in your green cart do not go to a landfill. They are composted into a natural resource! Austin Resource Recovery staff collects the material from your green composting cart and transports it to a local commercial composting facility.

Use your green composting cart Place food scraps, food-soiled paper, yard trimmings and natural fibers into your green composting cart. ... Set out your green cart every week by 5:30 a.m. on your collection day, even if it isn't full.

Austin's composting rules are few: No cat litter, cigarette butts, diapers, pet waste, animal carcasses, rocks, wine corks, Styrofoam or other trash. You can compost meat, but you shouldn't put bacon grease or other oil in the bin. The only plastic bags you can use are the small BPI-certified compostable bags.
